Meet Your Lead Yoga Teacher: Why Experience Matters in a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Choosing the right 200-hour yoga teacher training in Thailand is about more than learning yoga poses or earning a certification. It is about learning from experienced teachers who can help you deepen your practice, build confidence, understand yoga philosophy, and develop the skills to teach others with knowledge and compassion.

At Ananda Yoga & Detox Center in Koh Phangan, Thailand, you will study with Lead Teacher Valerie Jeremijenko, an experienced yoga teacher and educator with more than 35 years of personal yoga practice and over 20 years of experience leading yoga teacher training programs around the world.

Her extensive teaching experience brings together the traditional wisdom of yoga and modern approaches to movement, anatomy, and student development. But what does learning from an experienced yoga teacher really mean for your journey? It means gaining practical knowledge, developing your own teaching style, and learning how to guide students with confidence and care.

Learn to Adapt Your Yoga Teaching to Different Bodies and Needs

Every yoga student is different. People have different physical abilities, experience levels, movement patterns, and individual needs. A good yoga teacher must understand how to adapt their teaching rather than expect every student to perform the same poses in the same way.

Valerie’s teaching combines a strong foundation in traditional yoga with an in-depth understanding of anatomy, pain science, and student development.

Her studies include the fascial and nervous systems, while her current interests focus on chronic pain, pain science, and how yoga can support healthy ageing.

During your yoga teacher training, you will explore how to make informed teaching decisions, understand individual student needs, and create a supportive environment for different bodies and abilities.

Her experience teaching university students in multicultural environments also influences her approach to education. She understands that becoming a confident yoga teacher takes time, practice, patience, and guidance.

Build a Strong Yoga Practice with Traditional Roots and Modern Knowledge

A meaningful yoga education should honour the traditional roots of yoga while allowing space for personal exploration and growth.

Valerie began studying Ashtanga Yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1990 and has travelled to India more than 15 times to deepen her understanding of yoga. Throughout her journey, she has also studied with respected teachers, including R. Sharath Jois, Lino Miele, John Scott, Graeme Northfield, and Tim Miller.

Her teaching experience extends beyond one particular yoga style. She draws inspiration from Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Dharma-inspired Hatha, technical workshops, myofascial release, natural breathing, Yoga Nidra, meditation, and emotional balance. She is also currently immersed in the study of Dharma Yoga.

This diverse background gives students an opportunity to explore yoga from different perspectives and develop a deeper understanding of the practice.

Rather than simply memorising sequences, you will learn to understand the principles behind yoga, refine your personal practice, and develop a teaching approach that feels authentic and informed.

Gain Real-World Experience from an International Yoga Educator

Becoming a yoga teacher involves much more than leading a class. It also means understanding how to connect with students, build a community, manage classes, and create meaningful learning experiences.

Valerie brings valuable real-world experience from establishing and managing yoga communities in different countries.

She founded Yama Yoga Studios in Doha, Qatar, established a retreat centre near Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, and is the owner and director of Ananda Yoga & Detox Center on Koh Phangan, Thailand.

Her international experience gives students insight into the practical realities of working as a yoga teacher, whether their future goal is to teach in a yoga studio, lead retreats, organise workshops, or build an independent yoga business.

Learning from someone who has personally experienced these different aspects of the yoga industry can help you develop a more realistic understanding of what it takes to build a fulfilling yoga career.

Learn from a Teacher Who Understands the Yoga Teacher Training Journey

Valerie developed her first yoga teacher training curriculum while living in the United States. Since then, she has led teacher training programs across different countries and continuously refined her approach to yoga education.

Her experience is reflected in a curriculum designed to help students become knowledgeable, thoughtful, and confident yoga teachers.

A good yoga teacher training should not only prepare you to lead a class. It should also encourage self-discovery, personal development, and a deeper connection with the practice.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner looking to take the next step or someone who feels inspired to share yoga with others, having an experienced mentor can make a meaningful difference.
